Grow 1 – Day 17

aviary-image-1485901008956

Still looking good, I think. I was wrong about how many leaves are in the newest (3rd set) of leaves, there are 6 total (3 on each side). Last night I did end up watering it with just water and calmag PHed to 5.8. Gonna plan to give nutrients every other watering but we’ll see how it goes. I also added a couple more  40w (2800 lumens each) daylight bulbs so now I’m up to 4 bulbs total (160w / 11,200 lumens). I really need to find a way to better control the water flow (like buy a watering can, LOL) when I do water because it’s way too intense for this medium, it expands a lot and I’m affraid it will damage my plant as last night my plant actually fell over from the water flow. I picked it pack up and gave is some extra soil support near the bottom of the stem and luckily the plant seems fine. I did accidentally leave my fan away from the plant earlier today when I was checking on it and when I came back the temp in the pot was 86, yikes! I put it back and will have to try and be more careful, I bet the new lights didnt help either. The temp range today overall has been 75-88 degrees and the humidity has been 28-35%.

Grow 1 – Day 16

The four (not 3) new leaves are coming in good and everything seems like it’s going pretty well so far. It’s been a week since I’ve watered it but the soil a few inches some is still damp. At this point I am thinking I will probably water it tonight as the pot feels pretty light and I’m not sure it will every fully dry out at this rate. I moved my thermometer from outside the pot to inside the pot and realized  (duh) it’s actually hotter where the plant is near the light, was ranging from 68 -82 degrees today and humidity in the 30%s.

Grow 1 – Day 15

aviary-image-1485728312947

Didn’t have time to update yesterday but as you can see that second set of leaves has now grown nearly as large as the first set now. Another set or leaves (this time 3 it appears) is also starting to grow. I feel like it’s finally starting to grow faster so that’s nice. Soil is still moist and couple inches or so down so I haven’t watered it again yet. I am concerned that it doesn’t seem to be growing upwards but it is an indica strain which I know grow bustier so maybe that has something to do with it. I also have kind of had the lights on the side just because of how small it is and the way my fixture is so perhaps when I have to move them so that they are more overhead it will grow upwards more. Temperature has still been 68-70 degrees and humidity has been around 40%.

Grow 1 – Day 11

aviary-image-1485382257572

Still growing pretty slow, based on my responses to a forum post it is likely because I planted it in too large a pot (I didn’t want to deal with transplanting from different sized pots) and so the plant is putting more energy into building it’s roots right now. Next time I will just start in a solo cup, lesson learned. Temperature has been 68-70 degrees and humidity has been in the low 40%s.

Grow 1 – Day 10

aviary-image-1485298986844

Starting to see the second set of leaves starting to grow today, other than that not much to report. Soil is still moist from the last watering, going to wait until it’s really dry to water it again. Hoping it starts growing faster soon. Temperature has been 68-70 and humidity has been 40-44%.

Grow 1 – Day 9

aviary-image-1485209567699

I feel like it hasn’t grown much since yesterday but maybe my expectations are just unrealistically high, haha. Just worried that it’s growing too slow and that I’m doing something wrong. Last night I watered it until there was 10-20% runoff, I decided to add partial strength  (1/4) nutrients for the first time even though it may be a little soon. I also moved the light a couple inches or so closer to the sprout earlier today (so now it’s around 2 inches away). I’m hoping I didn’t mess up the roots when I watered it last night because the water did move the soil around a good amount when I was watering it, it was hard to control. Temperature and humidity have still been around the same at 70 degrees and mid 40% range for humidity.

Grow 1 – Day 8

aviary-image-1485115901200

I realized late last night that the seed leaves were trapped by some sort of membrane like material left over from the seed. I gently removed it with some tweezers and the leaves immediately opened up revealing the beginnings of the first set of real leaves as well. The yellow spot on the left leaf is from part of the stuff I removed blocking light on that spot I think and has gotten less yellow since last night. I’m letting the soil dry out (no more spraying) so I can do a nice thorough watering with run-off next time I think it needs water. Has been a week now since I first planted the seed. Temperature has been 70 and humidity has been around 45 still…room seems pretty consistent.

Grow 1 – Days 1 through 7

Since I already started an un-published journal I am just going to copy and paste what I’ve documented so far:

Day 1 – January 15, 2017:

Set everything up today and planted the seed. Thoroughly watered the soil with PHed tap water then made a half inch or so hole that I dropped the ungerminated seed into and lightly covered back up. I hung a my 4 way split light socket with 2 40w daylight CFL bulbs around 4 inches away from the soil and I will keep them on 24 hours a day until I switch to flower. Temperature was in the low 60s because the heat breaker was off for this room. Humidity high 40s. Planted seed at around 9pm.

Day 2 – January 16, 2017:

Not much to report today. Constantly checking the pot even though I know it’s not possible the plant would sprout this soon. Got the heating situation handled and now it’s around 68 degrees and around 50% humidity. Soil is still moist and everything seems fine but I’m already getting impatient.

Day 3 – January 17, 2017:

My impatience won today and I really hope I didn’t damage my seedling. Was checking my pot all day hoping I’d see something even though I know it is still highly unlikely. I was blowing the top of the soil hoping to make it easier for the sprout to get out. I eventually got so impatient that I gently started digging around and found the seed. The seed was germinated and had a small taproot. I gently put it back in the soil taproot down and lightly covered it back up. This was a pretty stupid decision but I don’t think I did any damage and hopefully it keeps growing. Temperature had been 68 and humidity had been around 46-48%, soil is still moist so I haven’t given it any more water yet.

Day 4 – January 18, 2017:

aviary-image-1484794124933

What appears to be the seed is sticking out of the soil today…hoping this is a good sign that I didn’t screw my seed up when I dug it up yesterday. I’m assuming the taproot is growing and pushing it up. I have been misting with PHed water every so often because the top of the soil is pretty dry. It does feel wet if I stick my finger into the soil knuckle deep though so I’m not giving is too much water when I spray it. Temperature and humidity are still around 68 degrees and 46%.

Day 5 – January 19, 2017:
aviary-image-1484877589812

When I checked on my plant this morning it seemed pretty much the same as last night. I was concerned that it should still be under ground and that maybe I had placed it too shallow after the digging up the seed incident so I decided to cover it up with a VERY thin layer of moist dirt. It ended up emerging from that dirt later in the day and I’m just gonna let it be for now. I am getting worried that I should be giving it more water. The coco coir perlite mix seems pretty dry on top but I don’t want to flood it since it’s so small. I was spraying it with water every couple of hours today to keep the top moist. In the evening I poured some water out of the sprayer around the seedling to saturate the area more because it seemed too dry to me based on my Internet research and I didn’t want it to be dry overnight. This shifted the soil a bit and covered some of the green that was showing/is showing in thee photo above which was what I was afraid of but hopefully it’s not an issue. Temperature has been 66-68 degrees and humidity has been from like 42-48% today.

Day 6 – January 20, 2017:

aviary-image-1485043132323

Clearly starting to sprout now however the seed was still attached, guessing because I didn’t bury it deep enough after I dug it up. Towards the end of the day I decided to try to take the shell off using tweezers and it came right off like it was probably about to fall off on its own. Have continued to regularly spray it with water. I set up a box fan to blow towards the plant when the closet door is open so it can get some better air circulation. Temperature has been around 68 still and humidity around 45%.

Day 7 – January 21, 2017:

aviary-image-1485043170352

Everything is looking good, hoping the first set of leaves will come out soon. I wasn’t around much today so it was nice to come home and see noticeable growth since this morning. Going to stop spraying and water it normally soon as I think it’s strong enough at this point to not be greatly disturbed by water flow from a watering can. I have been using Calimagic since yesterday in the spray bottle water. Temperature has been 70 degrees today and the humidity has been in the mid 40s.
